ID fraud survey says Britons should do more to protect themselves

It has been revealed that 94% of people in the UK are vulnerable to ID fraud; however, less than half check their bank statements and bills regularly.

This highlights the concern that both consumers and businesses need to take more action towards ID fraud prevention.

The survey also showed that only 56% of British businesses have established an extensive anti-fraud policy for employees, whilst 40% of workers think that personal details can be found in bins at the workplace.

A recent victim of Identity fraud, BBC presenter John Inverdale, said, “It is important to do things like regularly check your credit report, be careful about what information you reveal on social networks and never give out personal information, especially your PIN number.”

Other measures businesses can also take include establishing a clear computer security policy, and to destroy sensitive documents using a shredder.
