3,000 bank accounts raided by hackers
Computer hackers have launched a new attack on thousands of personal bank accounts, whereby victims lost, on average, between £1,000 to £3,000.
The cyber criminals developed a ‘trojan horse’ program, which took over £675,000 from one high street bank (not yet named). This dangerous piece of malware, called Zeus v3, is the most sophisticated the bank have ever come across. They actually spread through legitimate websites and then advertising to infect computers. Afterwards, it lays dormant until the unaware computer users log onto their online banking page. It then uses this opportunity to steal all their log-in details in order to hack into their accounts. However, the malware is selective about who they steal money from- only from those with at least £800 in their accounts.
M86 Security, the US web company advises, “Always check your balance and have a good idea of what it is.
Another security company has suggested that 100,000Pcs in Britain had been infected with earlier versions of the Zeus Trojan.
