Shredders are not complicated pieces of equipment and that is why taking a little bit of extra time to maintain them is worth the time and effort. Most shredder oil comes in a convenient squeeze bottle with a narrow tip and extended nozzle. All you have to do is remove the cap and oil the shredder once a month for optimum cutting efficiency.
Keeping your shredder working with shredder oil is one of the easiest things you can do. Constant shredding can cause dust from the paper to build up inside the shredder where the machine does the cutting. Eventually this dust and particles get packed in place and prevent the shredder from working properly. It interrupts the movement of the cutting mechanism. If you use your shredder to cut very fine shreds you will have more of a problem with the buildup of dust particles and the more often you will need to use shredder oil to keep it working properly.
While keeping your shredder working with shredder oil is usually recommended once a month as noted above, keep in mind that this will vary depending on the type of shredder, the size of the cut and how often it is used. The more often you use the shredder and the finer the cut, the more often you will need to use shredder oil. In fact you may want to use it once a week.
Applying the
shredder oil to the shredding machine is not difficult to do. Simply apply the oil to the cutting blades using a small stream of oil moving from side to side. Now turn the machine on in reverse and allow it to run for 15 or 20 seconds. This works the oil into the machine so that it reaches all the necessary areas. To remove any excess oil simply shred a few sheets of paper.
Do not use any other type of oil on your shredder. Keeping your shredder working using shredding oil is the only effective means of making certain that you do not damage the machine in the process. If you use some other type of oil that is not meant for a shredder you run the risk of leaving unwanted residue behind that will damage your machine. Shredder oil is designed specifically for use with shredders and has exactly the right ingredients to be the most effective maintenance product for your shredder.
